How To Make Quick And Easy Naan Bread.

By

This recipe is the best and easiest I have found to date. Some recipes ask for yeast. I dont use it personally but you might want to. You can serve these with a curry dish. I actually enjoy making this bread and having them with shishkabobs. MMMMM really tasty. You will need about 7 minutes of prep time and about 5-6 minutes cooking time.

INGREDIENTS

6 cups white flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

1 tsp sugar

1 1/2 cups warm water

1 egg, beaten

4 tsp melted ghee or oil

fresh cilantro sprigs, to garnish

Naan Bread Instructions

  • Sift the baking powder, sugar, flour and salt together in a large bowl. make a small well in the center.
  • Mix water and egg together and add to dry ingredients.
  • mix together until a heavy dough forms. Shape the dough in to a ball.
  • Soak a clean dish towel in hot water. Wring it out and use to cover bowl. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Take dough and roll it out on a counter brushed with melted ghee or oil and flatten with a rolling pin.
  • Occasionally sprinkle the dough with ghee or oil and kneed in little by little until it's completely incorporated.
  • Shape dough in to 10 equal sized balls.

  • Resoke the dish towel in hot water and wring out again. Place over dough balls and let sit for 1 hour to rise.
  • Meanwhile put 1 or 2 cookie sheets or stoneware in the oven to preheat at 450 degrees.
  • Use a slightly greased rolling pin to roll the dough balls in to tear drop shapes about 3 mm or 1/8inch thick.
  • Add a little ghee or oil to cookie sheets or stoneware. arrange nanns on cook wear and bake for about 5-6 minutes.
  • They will appear golden brown and slightly puffy.
  • As you take out of oven brush with ghee or oil and serve immediately. garnish with cilantro.

Serving

You can change it up and add sesames or nigella seeds and just scatter over the dough before cooking. Give it a different flavor. Like I said earlier it goes great with a curry or pasta dish if you add a little garlic to the oil or ghee. Enjoy!!!!!!

After struggling to knead the tough dough, these tasted a little too much like flour for my taste... instead of brushing with oil, i brushed some with butter and paprika, and others with butter and curry powder... much better!

More prep time than indicated.

i had to use a lot more water than the recipe called for to get the dough together, maybe 1/2 cup, and the cooking time was more like 15-20 minutes. i also fried them after baking because they didn't come out golden brown.

besides that good, quick recipe. :)

Make that at least a two hour process including the resting time of the bread!!!!!!
