Georges St.Pierre

Georges "Rush" St. Pierre who is often referred to as GSP, was born on May 19 1981. He was born in Saint-Isidore, Quebec, Canada. St. Pierre had a difficult childhood constantly being picked on, having his money and clothes stolen from school bullies. At the age of seven he started taking Kyokushin Karate to defend himself. After his Karate Instructor passed away he took up wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and boxing. St. Pierre often found himself working as a bouncer and garbageman to pay for his schooling and training. He currently has his Black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. St. Pierre had his first amateur (MMA) fight when he was only 16 years old. He won his first bout by knockout, fighting a much older and more experienced 25 year old with a kick to the head.

Georges St. Pierre pro debut

St. Pierre made his pro debut against a far more experienced fighter by the name Ivan Menjivar. It ended with a first round TKO win. He went on to win his next three fights before making his TKO debut against Pete Spratt at TKO14(Nov 29, 2003). He defeated Spratt with a rear naked choke in the first round

St. Pierre joins the UFC

Georges fought Karo Parisyan at UFC 46. He won by unanimous decision in his octagon debut. In his next fight he defeated Jay Hieron via TKO in 1:42 of the first round at UFC 48. After these two impressive wins he was pitted against a far more experienced fighter by the name of Matt Hughes. Despite a very competetive first round, St. Pierre was forced to tap out due to an arm bar with only 1 second remaining in the round. This was the first loss of his pro career and Georges has since admitted that he was in awe of Matt Hughes going into that title bout.

Road To The UFC Welter Weight Title

After Pierre's loss to Hughes he rebounded with a win over Dave Strasser via kimura in the first round. He then had a bloody battle against Jason "Mayhem" Miller where he won by unanimous decision at UFC 52. St. Pierre was then matched up against top contender Frank Trigg at UFC 54 where he won the fight via rear naked choke. At UFC 54 He handed Sean Sherk only his second loss in the octagon. Georges went on to defeat the former welter weight and current light weight champ B.J. Penn by split decision. This win elevated him to the number one contender position.

GSP wins the Welter Weight title

Georges was set to challenge then-champion Matt Hughes again for the title at UFC 65. St Pierre knocked down Hughes with a superman punch and left hook. Hughes managed to survive the round. In the second round St.Pierre won the fight via TKO (strikes) after a devastating kick to the head followed up by relentless punches and elbows.

GSP loses and then regains the title

St. Pierre fought Matt Serra at UFC 69. He lost the fight via TKO (punches) in the first round. He said he lost this fight due to lack of focus and problems in his personal life. He has gone on to say that Matt Serra was simply the  man that night. St. Pierre went on to defeat Josh Koscheck by unanimous decision. He then went on to beat Matt hughes at UFC 79 again in a rubber match beating him by submission. At this point GSP was set to rematch Matt Serra for another shot at the title. This bout took place at UFC 83. GSP was a juggernaut and unstoppable in this performance.  St. Pierre consistently took Serra down and forced Serra into a turtle position  delivering repeated knees to Serra's Midsection. The fight was stopped in the second round via TKO. Georges St. Pierre Had been crowned king of the Welter weight division once again.

Defending his crown

St-Pierre went on to defeat Jon Fitch by unanimous decision at UFC 87, retaining his UFC welterweight title. He exhibited clear dominance over a durable Jon Fitch, scoring multiple devastating strikes and taking the former Purdue wrestling captain down. After the fight, GSP spoke to Fitch about the growth that his own loss prompted and said that Fitch's experience should be no different. This win over Fitch set up the most anticipated rematch in UFC history. B.J. Penn vs. GSP 2

GSP Vs. B.J. Penn 2

This fight was definitely one for the books. It took place Jan 31/09.St Pierre's relentless attacks and sheer grappling ability frustrated Penn through the first few rounds. St. Pierres striking looked extremely crisp and frustrated Penn who was thought to be the faster fighter. GSP was able to ground and pound Penn at will until the start of the fifth round where Penn's corner threw in the towel. This was GSP's most dominant performance to date and cemented his name in MMA history. The scary thing about St. Pierre is the fact that he is still improving. He is set to battle Thiago "the Pitbull" Alves in his next bout which looks to be another exciting match up.
